Angry mob beat three suspected transformer vandals to death

A mob has beaten three suspected transformer vandals to death in Umuohiagu community in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area and Egbelu Obube community in Owerri North Local government area of Imo State. Two of the suspects, Ifeanyi Mgbakabala and Kelechi Eke (aka Agwo) are natives of  Umuagwu village in Umuohiagu, while the identity of the third suspect cannot be ascertained at press time. Witnesses said the suspects, who specialized in vandalizing electricity transformers within the airport communities, were apprehended at Umuekwune kindred in Umuorisha village, while attempting to vandalize the only remaining transformer in Umuohiagu. The suspects had allegedly vandalized eight transformers in Umuohiagu in the past three months, effectively throwing the community into darkness. They were said to have also vandalized the dedicated cables being installed for the new radio house for the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri. The suspected vandals were also four weeks ago linked with the vandalization of a transformer at the permanent base of the  Nigeria Air Force at nearby Umuowa community, a development that led to detention of the two Airforce personnel

Nine hospitalised as truck rams into seven vehicles in Imo

No fewer than nine persons have been hospitalised after a truck rammed into seven other vehicles on Njaba bridge along Owerri / Orlu Expressway. Uju Onwudiwe , who represents Njaba constituency at the State House of Assembly confirmed the accident while moving a motion on the floor of the House . She called on Governor Emeka Ihedioha to repair the Njaba bridge as a matter of urgency . The lawmaker said that she cried when she got to the scene of the incident . She said that the accident could have been averted if the damaged bridge had been repaired . She said , “Mr Speaker and my colleagues , you need to see what happened at Njaba bridge . That accident would have been averted if the damaged bridge had been repaired . “As a lawmaker and as a mother I am very concerned . It could have been any of us . As I speak, nine persons are still hospitalised and others have gone . I also urge that the cars be removed from the roads before hoodlums hijack them . ” While urging her colleagues to support the motion , she said that lives should not be politicised. Iheanacho loses aide in Auto Crash

The personal assistant to Nigerian -born Leicester City player , Kelechi Iheanacho on Saturday died in a ghastly motor accident. The victim , David Nwachukwu , was said to be the Super Eagles player ’s closest confidant . Nwachukwu , who hailed from Ohaji /Egbema area of Imo State , the same area with the footballer was in a jeep when the deadly accident occurred . An eyewitness told our correspondent that the incident happened beside Alvana modern secondary school , located along Owerri -Onitsha Expressway in Owerri , the Imo State capital . He was riding alone when the crash occurred . A source said that the deceased ran into a stationary vehicle and died on the spot. SARS arrests killer of PA to Ihedioha’s aide

The Special Anti -Robbery Squad of the Imo State Police Command has arrested the suspected killer of Bruno Uchechukwu. Uchechukwu, until his death last week at the Cherubim junction in Owerri , was the Personal Assistant to Jasper Ndubuaku , who is the Chairman of the Committee for the Recovery of Movable Stolen Assets belonging to the state government and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters . The state Commissioner of Police , Rabiu Ladodo, said the suspect , Leonard Dennis, was arrested based on credible intelligence. Ladodo, who described the suspect as a notorious criminal , said he belonged to a cult. The CP , who said the suspect was popularly known as Toothpick, added that the SARS Commander , Godfrey Victor , led the operation to the School Road in Owerri Municipal , where the suspect was apprehended . Gunmen suspected to be political assailants have killed Bruno Uchechukwu, the personal assistant to the chairman of Imo State committee on the Recovery of Stolen Movable Assets belonging to the Imo State government , Jasper Ndubuaku . The committee , which is chaired by a former member of the state House of Assembly, Ndubuaku , was inaugurated by the state governor , Emeka Ihedioha , shortly after his swearing- in. Our correspondent learnt that the victim was murdered on Sunday evening at Cherubim Junction, a popular junction in the state capital . Okorocha blasts Imo PDP over petition to IGP against him

The immediate past governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has tackled the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over a petition against him by the party to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), accusing him of making inciting comments against Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s administration. The petition, which was signed by the state secretary of the party, Nze Ray Emeana, and made available to journalists yesterday, urged the IGP to look into Okorocha’s comments while addressing his supporters during his return to the state last Tuesday and call him to order.
