Imo: Flood submerges 70 houses, renders 2,000 homeless

Chidiebube Okeoma No fewer than 2, 000 people , including women and children, have been rendered homeless following the flood which submerged at least 70 houses in Orsu - Obodo community in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State . The flood, our correspondent learnt, was as a result of the 10 -day non -stop rainfall in the state . Sources said the flood , which destroyed farm crops , had unsettled the villagers . The Deputy Governor of the state , Gerald Irona, who paid a visit to the community on Saturday , promised that the state government would come to the aid of the flood victims . He said the state government would deploy flood management experts to the area to forestall a recurrence. A statement by Walter Duru , media aide to the deputy governor , quoted him as saying , “On behalf of the government of Imo State , led by the governor , Chief Emeka Ihedioha , we are here to see things for ourselves . It is unfortunate . It is a natural disaster, but government will take steps to assist you and other affected communities . It is a pity .
