The Imo State Governor , Emeka Ihedioha , has ordered the immediate shutdown of the M 2 International Guest House , Amakohia , Owerri , and the Tapa Pure Water Factory, Orji , over attacks on officials of the state Environmental Transformation Enforcement Team on Illegal Dumping of Refuse, while performing their lawful duties .
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor , Chibuike Onyeukwu , said in a statement on Tuesday that Ihedioha vowed to discipline any interim management committee chairman of any local government area who failed to keep their area clean .
The statement said the governor equally charged his aide on sanitation , Alex Emeziem , to improve on the sanitation of the state .
The statement read in part, “Ahead of the Yuletide and towards improving the sanitation in the state , Governor Emeka Ihedioha has charged the chairmen of interim management committees and chairmen of ENTRACO in the 27 local governments in Imo State to rid the state of filth and ensure a healthy environment.
“He also warned that he would not hesitate to take appropriate actions against any LGA chairman or ENTRACO official , who fail to keep his or her LGA clean .
“This is also as the governor has ordered the immediate shutdown of the M 2 International Guest House , Amakohia , and the Tapa Pure Water , Orji , over attacks on the ENTRACO Enforcement Team on Illegal Dumping of Refuse, who were on their lawful duties.
“At a crucial meeting with the LGA chairmen and ENTRACO officials held at the Government House , Owerri , on Monday , Ihedioha declared as unacceptable the current state of sanitation , particularly in the state capital , Owerri , and harped on the need to adopt strategies to improve on refuse collection and disposal across the state , especially during this festive period.”
