Nine hospitalised as truck rams into seven vehicles in Imo

No fewer than nine persons have been hospitalised after a truck rammed into seven other vehicles on Njaba bridge along Owerri / Orlu Expressway. Uju Onwudiwe , who represents Njaba constituency at the State House of Assembly confirmed the accident while moving a motion on the floor of the House . She called on Governor Emeka Ihedioha to repair the Njaba bridge as a matter of urgency . The lawmaker said that she cried when she got to the scene of the incident . She said that the accident could have been averted if the damaged bridge had been repaired . She said , “Mr Speaker and my colleagues , you need to see what happened at Njaba bridge . That accident would have been averted if the damaged bridge had been repaired . “As a lawmaker and as a mother I am very concerned . It could have been any of us . As I speak, nine persons are still hospitalised and others have gone . I also urge that the cars be removed from the roads before hoodlums hijack them . ” While urging her colleagues to support the motion , she said that lives should not be politicised. Iheanacho loses aide in Auto Crash

The personal assistant to Nigerian -born Leicester City player , Kelechi Iheanacho on Saturday died in a ghastly motor accident. The victim , David Nwachukwu , was said to be the Super Eagles player ’s closest confidant . Nwachukwu , who hailed from Ohaji /Egbema area of Imo State , the same area with the footballer was in a jeep when the deadly accident occurred . An eyewitness told our correspondent that the incident happened beside Alvana modern secondary school , located along Owerri -Onitsha Expressway in Owerri , the Imo State capital . He was riding alone when the crash occurred . A source said that the deceased ran into a stationary vehicle and died on the spot. Imo Pays 24,000 Pensioners Arrears

The Imo state government on Thursday paid no fewer than 24, 000 pensioners had received two months pensions. The development erupted jubilation in the state, this even as the governor, Emeka Ihedioha, in his maiden broadcast to the people of the state, said that there was huge fraud in the payment of pensions in the state. Ihedioha in the broadcast said that the State government would be parting with N1, 218,175,387 for both State and Local government pensioners, monthly. He revealed that his administration inherited six years pension arrears and discovered inexplicable discrepancies in the total number of pensioners in both the State and 27 local government areas. The governor said, "I would like to appeal to all our citizens that the challenge of payment of a pensions bills standing over N1.2 billion monthly is very enormous. Okorocha accuses Ihedioha of failing Imo pensioners

The immediate past governor of Imo State , Rochas Okorocha, has accused his successor , Emeka Ihedioha , of dashing the hopes of pensioners in the state . This is coming few hours after the governor had in his state -wide broadcast said his administration inherited six years ’ pension arrears from Okorocha. Ihedioha also announced that his administration had started the payment of pension arrears after the biometric capturing of the pensioners had been concluded . College eject students from Owerri hostels

There was an outcry at the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education , Owerri , Imo State , on Wednesday , as the management ejected students living in hostels owned by the institution . The security personnel on the campus acting on the instructions of the provost of the college moved into the hostels and forced the students out and removed their belongings . One of the security personnel explained that the management had ordered all the students living in the hostels to vacate immediately their examinations were over. But one of the affected students , who spoke on condition of anonymity , accused the school management of being insensitive . She said that the management , without any notice , ejected them from the hostels they pay for every year . According to her, ejecting them in the dead of night exposed them to dangers . Says Allegation Frivolous and Unfounded  The Police in Imo have described as “frivolous and unfounded” the allegation of rape levelled against Uju Kingsley, a member of the House of Representatives. SP Orlando Ikeokwu, spokesman for the Imo Police Command, said at a news conference on Wednesday that the allegation against the lawmaker (Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/ Oru West Federal Constituency) was unfounded. The PPRO said investigations revealed that a woman, Mrs Nkeiruka Kamalu, 40, and other conspirators attempted to blackmail and extort money from the lawmaker. According to him, on May 5, a case of advance fee fraud, conspiracy, forgery and threat to life, was lodged against Kamalu.
