Okorocha blasts Imo PDP over petition to IGP against him

The immediate past governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has tackled the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over a petition against him by the party to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), accusing him of making inciting comments against Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s administration. The petition, which was signed by the state secretary of the party, Nze Ray Emeana, and made available to journalists yesterday, urged the IGP to look into Okorocha’s comments while addressing his supporters during his return to the state last Tuesday and call him to order. But in his reaction, Okorocha described the letter as “deceitful and an afterthought”, urging the IGP to disregard the petition. A statement signed by Okorocha’s Special Adviser, Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, said: “Governor Emeka Ihedioha-led PDP government in Imo State has sent a letter to the IGP to call the beloved former governor of the State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to order, because according to them, he was inciting his supporters to cause trouble. “Governor Ihedioha was also quoted to have said that his predecessor, Owelle Okorocha “stole” not N200 billion again but N1 trillion from the state. “We want to app

It’s better to have younger govt appointees –Okeahilam, 36-year-old Imo commissioner

Chidiebube Okeoma Thirty -six - year -old Ekezie Johnbosco Okeahilam is the Imo State Commissioner for Commerce , Industry and Entrepreneurship . Okeahilam , the youngest commissioner in the state and a first -class graduate, tells CHIDIEBUBE OKEOMA about his transition from the private sector to the public sector Many people have been talking about your age , saying that young people are often not mature enough for top political offices; what is your view on that ? Frankly, I am 36 years old and that is a quite a lot of years . But come to think of it, I will be more impressed if I see a 25 -year -old becoming a commissioner . So I do not see how being a 36 - year -old commissioner in 2019 is a big deal . It is about capacity and the ability to deliver. You graduated with a first -class degree in economics, was Chief Operating Officer for Continental Sports and Head of Business Development, Wakanow , why do you want to occupy a political office at a young age when you can still achieve more feats in the private sector ? Well, I think the minimum age requirement for President of Nigeria is 35 years , so at 36 years old with a master ’ s degree and having graduated with a first

Govt appointments: Women still marginalized-Princess Anene

By AFAM Echi A female protagonist and gender equality advocate, Princess Calista Anene has risen in protest to condemn the poor representation of women in the recent political appointments made by the Imo State government. The Oguta born Princess spoke at the side line shortly after the swearing in of the state Commissioners Wednesday at the Ahiajoku Arts and Culture centre. Fuming that only two women were appointed in the Ihedioha’s Rebuild team to take Imo to higher level she wondered why the governments finds it very difficult to respect the 35% Affirmative action stipulated by the United Nations. The Canadian based advocate for good governance insisted that women should be fairly represented in this PDP government led by Governor Ihedioha because according to her women fought more than men during the campaigns and elections with their adult children as the major voters. While she expressed gratitude to the governor for finding the women worthy, she also hoped that the governor will be magnanimous enough to give more women appointments in the subsequent positions to be filled. In her words, ‘lots of women who are interested in politics tend to shy away from it
